Independent Reading Project 9R
We will spend approximately two days in the library for you to choose a novel as part of your independent reading project. You will read this novel over the course of approximately three-four weeks. During your reading you should take notes on the following:
Upon completion of the novel you will neatly fill out the novel talk guide handout and use it to do an oral presentation for the class. Be sure to follow all the steps of the guide for full credit! Your goal is to pass along your enthusiasm for your novel in the hopes that your classmates might read it based on your recommendation.
- character list with descriptions (physical and personality traits)
- setting (time and place)
- conflicts (opposing forces)
- how do the character(s) attempt to resolve conflicts
- plot summary of main events
- important themes that the author is conveying to the reader
- predictions about what will happen next

Complete the Novel Talk Guide handout after you have finished the novel to prepare your oral presentation . The rubric is included to show you how you will be graded on the project.
